/n/ here

>Japan today announced in JR press conference.

$100 Maglev project between Tokyo and Nagoya. Won't be a problem for construction since it will go thru mountains, rather than being built near existing rail and mess things up for existing rail.

What does /sci/ think of maglevs v. traditional rail v. high speed rail.

We have two problems.

Once we colonize another planet, it will have a new day/night cycle we can't keep track of with our current time system.

The unit of energy, the Joule, is based off "our second" so once we move to another planet, we're fucked. Every single "constant" is based off what we have on planet earth. The actual formulas will still work, but the constants will change.

Solution:
I realize the earth has a 365 day/night cycle until it completely revolves around the sun.
Other planets will have different day/night cycles until they complete their "year"/"revolution"

Using your idea, we can make every day a base of 10 which will obviously change from planet to planet (since 1 metric second might be more or less depending on the planet), but by changing only the yearly amount, means less hassle.

I wouldn't call agnostics cowards. Just confused. I was an agnostic until I realized it made no sense. The things we know are based on what has been proven. We do not believe in something just because there is a possibility of it existing. So the phrase "I don't believe in god but also can't say he doesn't exist" doesn't really fit with the idea of a logical thinking person. Especially since an atheist DOES NOT mean there is no such thing as god. It is defined as a lack of belief in god. So if god was somehow proven tomorrow, atheist would have a sudden reason to believe because it was proven.
