/sci/, why is it that a nucleus is stable when it consists of particles with positive charge (and positive with positive repulse each other)?

And why doesn't the electron spiral in to the nucleus, if its loosing mass by decay?

Hey /sci/ laymen here so please bear with me.

A friend and I were driving around talking about drugs(he does this all the time and its actually annoying at times)and we started talking about DMT. He tells me that he believes that using these drugs puts one in contact with another plane of existence and the creator and that this is an experience that is independently experienced by many, many people and that this is evidence of this elevated plane of existence. I chime in by saying that this explanation requires a lot of assumptions to be true and its probably actually just people being high out of their minds. I point out the Hatman phenomena, something I've experienced before ever knowing other people did but that its likely just a subjective experience that humans tend to share for some reason. He responds by saying that this has been documented and studied by a scientist. He forgot his name but I believe he was talking about Terence McKenna. I haven't read his work and I've only Googled him for a few minutes but if seems like a bunch of BS that people like to believe because it sounds cool. Am I right or is there at least some evidence for this kind of stuff? Also, feel free to talk about other stuff related to drugs and psychedelics.
