I remember reading in an old high school textbook that some scientist had inadvertently found a metal compound that had a crystal lattice structure that would get stronger and "heal" when put under stress. one of tells of the metal was that when he sent a sample to the lab to be cut, they couldn't because it was too hard

He was originally hoping to use it for replacement joints, anyone know much about this? Physics book was approximately 10-15 years old
