Achieving anything of note in life takes a long time. Like over 1000 days of working your ass off. Since you experience life in the moment, you are working hard every day for rewards that are very delayed. I mean how long does a Med degree take? Or a Ph.D? And it's not just a thing of patience. You can't just enter some magic room where time around you stops and where you don't need to eat. Every day you need to worry about food, shelter and maintenance. Getting the skills you want will take years so someone has to pay for you or you sacrifice 1/3 of the day working which decreases your study capabilities.

And then there is also competition. There are many others that are as smart and hardworking as you or more. They may have better support from parents. Or genetics. Or just luck.

Your health is not fully in your control. You could get a seriously painful, crippling or even lethal disease any moment.

All that hard work then will be gone with no reward. All your dreams become unreachable.

How do people even take it all for granted?

I just started my degree and I recently startrd suffering from pretty strong headaches that doctors can't explain. Every day I worry they will get worse and I will have to call the emergency hotline. There is no plot armor protecting me. I guess I need to shift my focus to the process and not some distant goal but its hard to do.
