I was born on 98 and I remember very well how out of nowhere smartphones just took over.
I was 14 and one day I was making calls to my friend’s house, sending a text every now and then, and instant messaging on the computer, suddenly all of this was over taken by having instant messaging constantly. None of the other communication channels is overwhelming and anxiety inducing like IM at the tip of your fingers 24h a day. Then there is social media which is a whole different, and way worse, beast.
50 years from now when this stuff gets properly regulated, people will look back at this shit and get shocked how it just ran amok like it was nothing. Sort of like how we look back to when smoking was considered something nice. No wonder kids are killing themselves.
