I think there's a link between mental ills and genius

It is distressing to come to insights at variance with others

Psychosis is "losing contact with reality" - if you discover a new fact which is true and contradicts the presently accepted "reality", by definition you are psychotic

Also if you've critically thought things out, OP, you realize that a lot of ridiculous ideas can be defended and have some "truth" in them - so truth and falsity can get blurred if you're not careful, etc.

Mental illnesses are also just a label some people put on people like John Nash ^ as I mentioned above, if you develop the ability to think creatively, you will also come across bad ideas you'll consider as true.

Joseph McCarthy is portrayed as a paranoid [schizo], but the reality was that communists were infiltrating the U.S. gov't

Same with John Nash, he was fearful of commies and there was some truth to his claims

I've experienced some bouts with strange mental feels and ills myself and promote prayer and health food and exercise and logic as some calibration instruments - the common sense things are very much needed to stay on track in a world where things can really derail

Like Jesus said, "Stay on the straight and narrow path; for wide is the road to destruction"

Keep in mind in good faith and much sincerity there have been tons of destructive scientific ideas which have been discarded - some things we today think of as "normal" we will in the future think it is insane that we ever did!

One thing I think is "crazy" that other people do is sex - loss of semen is destructive. #nofapnovember #sexoutsideofmarriageIsSinful

I got an A in my Calculus class in highschool.

However, Calculus (Calculus I, I think) is the highest math that my HS offers, so what should I start learning next, preferably from an online textbook or website?

We went over Limits, derivatives, optimization with derivatives, relating rates, antiderivatives, and just got done with integrals at the end of the year.

What do you usually go over in Calculus II?

I'm in between being a Physics or a Mechanical Engineer/Engineering Physics or an Astronomy Major

Which will allow me to have more of a life? I plan get probably a bachelor of arts rather than a bachelor of science, so I'd love to have time to have a social life and really round out my non science aspect.

What are /sci/'s thoughts on...

-Silicon based life forms
-Liquid nitrogen replacing Liquid water for potential life on distant planets

This topic was brought up by one of Stephen Hawking's documentary's, just thought I'd see what /sci/ thinks about it.

Quick stats question: How do I find the 1st quartile of an odd number? My worksheet just says to find the median of the lower half, but it's a set of eleven numbers. Instruction/explanations would be much appreciated.

http://conservapedia.com/Counterexamples_to_an_Old_Earth

>The motivation for atheists to insist on falsely teaching that the Earth is old is to pull students away from God's immediate presence, and to turn them away from Jesus Christ. Also, they are motivated, and biased, by the fact that their evolutionist theories require a world which is billions of years old.
