>Medical investigations were carried out on the four divers' remains. The most conspicuous finding of the autopsy was large amounts of fat in large arteries and veins and in the cardiac chambers, as well as intravascular fat in organs, especially the liver.[5] This fat was unlikely to be embolic, but must have "dropped out" of the blood in situ.[5] It is suggested the boiling of the blood denatured the lipoprotein complexes, rendering the lipids insoluble.[5]

>The rigor mortis was unusually strong.[5] The hypostases (accumulations of blood in internal organs) were light red, and in two cases, there were numerous hemorrhages in the livers. All the organs showed large amounts of gas in the blood vessels, and scattered hemorrhages were found in soft tissues. One of the divers had a large sub-conjunctival bulla (a blister in the tissue of the eye).[5]

Mother of god. Why would anyone be a diver and risk this? I actually felt nauseous reading that. They died without even realizing something had gone wrong.

>>The only thing science has really disproven is a literal reading of Genesis

No, it has also proven that the universe could have and most likely did come into being of its own accord and that such an event would not have violated the law of conservation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXliM19h6YI

It's proven as well that you are your brain, that conscousness is a product of the brain's operation and not something separate and extricable which resides inside of it and leaves upon death: http://pinker.wjh.harvard.edu/articles/media/2004_09_27_newsweek.html

And that whole "Genesis was not meant to be taken literally" bullshit is nonsense. It falls apart with even a minute or two of close examination. The order of creation is wrong, meaning even if it was intended as metaphor it was written by a people who were clearly not divinely informed, and the account of creation specifies certain events as happening on the evenings of particular days. Days have evenings, not "periods of time", besides which the very beginning of Genesis includes a definition of what they mean by day when God creates the sun and the moon, the day and the night, names both, after which the first day has occurred.

It's fucking obvious that it's not simply misunderstood, it's WRONG. And the inability of theists to ever admit they are wrong about anything gives the lie to their claims that atheists are the arrogant ones.

>>Diver D4 was shot out through the small jammed hatch door opening, and was torn to pieces. Subsequent investigation by forensic pathologists determined D4, being exposed to the highest pressure gradient, violently exploded due to the rapid and massive expansion of internal gases. All of his thoracic and abdominal organs, and even his thoracic spine were ejected, as were all of his limbs. Simultaneously, his remains were expelled through the narrow trunk opening left by the jammed chamber door, less than 60 centimetres (24 in) in diameter. Fragments of his body were found scattered about the rig. One part was even found lying on the rig’s derrick, 10 metres (30 ft) directly above the chambers. His death was most likely instantaneous and painless.
