/sci/ I need your help badly. Yes this is entirely on topic, dealing with the pharmacology of a common OTC substance.

I'm sure you'll never see another post like mine.

I'm the guy that mentioned the hive breakout, which was true. I am addicted though and I need not get into how this occured, but I wound up taking 600-900mg of DPH per night. Most people are delirious at these doses, have seizures and wind up at the ER. I feel moderate sedation and simultaneous stimulation. The stimulation wears off first and then I go to sleep without issue.

A significant amount remains in my system the next day due to its (estimated) half life of about 10 hours in me. There is a pretty bad WD syndrome I experiene when quitting cold-turkey. Most symptoms are identical to SSRI WD probably because DPH has SRI effects (it was the starting point for development of Prozac back in the day).

Not terrible, but I literally work everyday, and it impedes my performance. Here is where /sci/ can help. My knowledge of Pharmacology is good for a layman, but I need someone wih a better understanding of it.

Why does it have these addictive effects on me and not others(pleasant stimulation/sedation with rare delirium at even the highest doses)? I have since childhood taken 200mg Phenobarbital daily for spasms and suspect this keeps the drug rfom overexciting certain neurons even as my parasympathetic nervous system toned down by the anticholinergic.

Is there an OTC medication (USA) with less severe effects I can take to help me taper off? So far, no troubles with cognition or organs and I want it to stay that way, this I want to be free of DPH come New Years day.

Since I use it as a hypnotic, what are good alternatives I could talk to a do about? I already take Temazepam but it alone wont even help me sleep.

Can pot and psychedelics stimulate scientific thought? Hope this is not off topic, but I want /sci/s oppiion, as many grad students in physics swear they do (take it for what it's worth). Aside from psychoactives, are there any other ways, in your opinion, to help you gain insights?

Been watching Cosmos recently, very thought-provoking and inspiring. However, it also seems like a PR campaign for NASA to get support for public funding and prevent budget cuts.

I'm sure many of you /sci/entists plan to have your research funded by public money. Should people really be forced to pay for research, or should it be voluntary donations where people only support the research they like?

Hello /sci/!

I know you have those kind of threads all the time but I'd like a little advice here.
I'm having a college text entrance in a month and I pretty much spent 7 months studying non-stop 7 hours a day. But now the day is getting closer, and some of my friends told me that I should stop and relax 'til there, but I don't want that. I kind of want to recheck everything I studied in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in a month.

Any advices of how I should do that? I have plenty of books of these subjects, I guess I should re-do all the exercises in them...(Links, e-books and etc are welcome as well)

I wonder how Carl Sagan would feel about being a hero to so many worthless stoners who don't have any actual real interest in science, but cite Sagan as a personal hero to make themselves feel more enlightened and intellectual than the general populace.
