The truth is that the world was already starting to become ruled by misinformation before AI, but we at least had an easy way to filter all of it. AI will make filtering out all the wrong information much more difficult if not impossible. Essentially think of encryption, it would take so long to break some encryption ciphers out there that it's impossible to break them for all intents and purposes. AI will exponentially increase the amount of fact checking which has to be done, to the point where when enough of it accumulates nobody will have the time to sort out what's true or not, and we can't just use algorithms for obvious reasons.
