Optics or Materials science? Currently just doing BS in Physics, but plan to do PhD in the chosen field.

When did you finally come to terms with the fact that you're a brainlet? That you're not as smart as you think you are? That you aren't as smart as your parents told you?

When did you realize that intellectual pursuits were boring you? When did you finally become content with simply doing things that brainlets do - like programming or unironically reading the news and thinking the journalism is quality - instead of doing "smart people things" just to fit yourself into the ideal of a "scientist" or a "mathematician"?

When did you become free?

What are the best things I can do to make myself stand out when applying for medical schools? Obviously excluding GPA and MCAT scores.
