Anyone remember Reaction Engines and Skylon?

A quick recap of the recent history--their native bongland and ESA basically ignored them or gave them pennies at best, but in 2017 DARPA started throwing dosh at them and arranged testing of their revolutionary engine precooler in the US in 2018. Also during 2018 in the US, an unremarkable startup Hermeus popped up, promising hypersonic flight like so many aero/spaceflight startups that never go anywhere.
Fast forward to present day and Hermeus has somehow solved the same precooler problem for their hypersonic engines, seemingly without the necessary R&D investment. US really knows how to grab promising tech and has the enterpreneurship possibilities to exploit that.
