r8 my plan bros.
BS in MechE, currently ~7 years exp, ~115k pay
Recently moved into a proper MechE role where I can now get qualifying work experience for my PE. (My previous roles were all hands on field engineering doing maintenance/operations in oil and gas, not qualifying)
I'd really like to work remote or in some programming capacity, i.e. automation, controls, or robotics.
My plan right now is to stay in my role and get the 4 years of experience I need for my PE, all while learning to program on the side. Next year I should get promoted, and my TC will be ~130k or more. Not anywhere near SWE salaries, but seems like a lot for a MechE.
I guess my question is, is it wise to sit in this role to get my PE, or if I am after $ and remote work, should I try to jump to a more software heavy role sooner?
