Ol'Musky is genuinely trying to push into space, which could end up saving humanity, from any number of disasters. Compared to the petty shit other billionaires spend their money on, Musk is a hero. Like how Steve Balmer took his Microsoft billions and bought a basketball team.

The Starlink project looks very interesting - high speed, low-latency internet to anywhere on Earth. It will be a nice boost in competition for ISPs. And being able to throw some Starlink satellites around Mars will make communication for disparate Mars bases so much easier.
