Dude thats a solidified liquid artifact from a splashed volcano or something. It's a more sensible explaination than headcrabs.

Someone had a pretty good explaination for this. He said it looked like a splash of volcanic liquid which solidified and assumed that crab-like shape. If you look at it, it has the splash tentacles, the impact from the center and the curvy structure. I think it's a more plausible explaination than a dead alien crab carcass.
