Because Europeans basically fucked it up for everyone in the west by wiping out the people they usually studied. Entire tribes of Amerindians and Aboriginal Australians have gone extinct or pushed to a couple thousand left. Most other tribes that are left have become mostly admix mutts see most of South America.

There's a reason those isolated tribes in the Amazons and off the coast of India have been left alone. Even China knows not to fuck with cultures at a certain point.
