My GF and I are graduating college soon.

She just got into a biochemistry PhD program and is going next year. It's shittily ranked though, between top 50 and top 100.

So, this relationship probably isn't going to work out, right?

Is the best way for me to avoid her getting snatched up by some Chad PhD student/hooking up with her PhD advisor to go to law school next year (got into a top 20 program) and become a high profile corporate lawyer?

I don't really want to do this because it would require working six days a week for 12 hours a day for the next five years, however, I also want to keep this chick around.

Looking back on 2019, I didn't get anything of note done and it's making me think a bit.

I have some friends who have made extremely difficult achievements in a variety of areas.
Then others (such as myself) are still shitting around doing absolutely nothing, not fulfilling their potential if they even have any, etc.

The ones accomplishing shit are not necessarily smarter or better than the ones wasting their life away. They just work harder with almost single-minded focus at the thing they're interested in.
What I wonder is why? Could it be genetic? Are underachievers just bound to be who they are? Are there genes associated with conscientiousness?
