So, how exaclty does the Moon effect gravitational orces and tidal waves? in every sci-fi movie i've seen The Moon SOMEHOW relates to rise in tides and odd weather patterns, how exactly does that work and what will its ater effects be?

If the Cold War had never happened, would we still have gone to the moon?

Hey, /sci/. Just a reminder.

Human beings have stood on the moon.

And it happened more than forty years ago.

(This should blow your fucking mind.)

let me propose this to you gentlemen. the sun has a zone around it that is the required distance to sustain life. the moon is in this zone. the moon is the same distance from the sun as we are why isnt there life there. wat if everything u have ever learned about the moon is a lie and there is thriving life there and the government dosent want u to know about it. OPEM YOUR EYES

Someone linked this URL a few days ago on why gravity is only a "theory".

I quickly dismissed this article because it had no citation or references. But today I was reading it and after the first paragraph barfed.

What would be the easiest way to knock the moon out of orbit and make it move away from Earth?

sup nerds so my friend told me that the VY Canis Majoris (I believe this one) has already exploded and that we are going to die from a Gamma ray burst that will last for around ~2 min. He also said that this would happen within the next 1000 years.

My question is, how could he know that it had already exploded. Even with our telescopes it takes thousands of years for the light of these stars to reach us, so how would he know if it had already exploded, is he just predicting it?

It was bugging me because we would basically be wiped out and have no real chance for survival (other than building a underground fortress with 4 ft. thick lead walls to block the gamma ray burst)
