Atlas Moths they're called.

Not quite an insect, but this is the goliath birdeater (so called because someone once claimed they saw one catch and eat a small bird). They're the biggest spiders in the world, second biggest depending on how you measure it (their very close relative has a bigger legspan, but less mass). I had one once. She was SUPER pissed about being sent through the mail and died after a day and a half. It made me sad.
