You can do what you want, but you cant choose what you want.

You aren't controlled by your brain, you ARE your brain. Therefore all the deterministic calculations that go into decisions are one and the same thing as you choosing to do something.

As for your personality, desires etc, you do not control them, because you don't pick what stimuli you are exposed to over your life, where you were born, etc.

You can choose to do what you want, but your desires are just there.

That is the state of free will. It is deterministic and arises from the fact that the calculations of the brain are the calculations of the person making a choice.
