New Jersey is actually very provincial in a lot of aspects. For instance, if you get an interview for a firm in New Jersey, and you have a degree from Michigan and not Rutgers, that'll actually be a negative for you. They'll think you're damaged goods or something for trying to get a job in New Jersey rather than in NYC.

Yeah...that's how self-loathing New Jersey is. I hate this state so much.
