Not him and I'm in Ireland, but it was covered along with quantum mechanics and special relativity, along with some other modules, in the first year. I had also studied quantum mechanics already in the last year of my bachelor's degree so we may have quite different set-ups.

I have been told before that the education is more intense here. (Not baiting, but an american lecturer mentioned it)

>Doing independent study yesterday with orgo professor
>Teaching me column chromatography with silica gel and sand while purifying our sample
>She was telling me how one of her grad school colleagues forgot to open the stopcock before turning on the N2 gas and had the fume hood open
>Column blew up from pressure and covered herself in silica gel
>Keep running the column and turning off the gas to refill the solvent
>After nearly 2 hours, we've nearly got the whole sample out, open the fume hood and accidentally turn the gas valve open rather than close
>mfw history almost repeated itself
I managed to quickly close the valve but when I heard the hiss of increasing gas pressure I was spooked
