Why aren't Australians, andeans, and aztecans the blackest people on earth?

UK is probably the worst place for solar and the best place for wind

in theory yes, but 90% of the energy goes to the ocean so you can only feel the impact in places like central Australia

A single panel and a car battery is not enough.
To do it right you need to spend $30.000 but then you can be 100% energy independent in most of the US. With full comfort. Just with solar and batteries. Only 80% in Canada, Alaska or UK.

panels are cheap, work at any scale from toy to rooftop to industrial size, can be used everywhere, even in less sunny regions

Solar cells are mostly glass and silicon, this is made of sand. To "mine" sand you just need a bucket and a shovel. Transport and melting needs energy. But this energy is earned back quite fast. A year in Alaska, two months in sunny California.

Solar is viable everywhere in the US and most of the world. Germany is less lucky with weather, but solar is still profitable. Transmission is solved. UHVDC got only minimal losses. You can produce hydrogen and methane from excess energy and feed it into the gas grid. This solves storage and transport.
