> can science exist without consensus;
Well, not really, functionally.
>and if not, what separates it from popular opinion?
It is popular opinion, but backed up by verifiability of empirical data.

Don't be a fucking idiot, please.

There are real concerns to be addressed about the scientific method and empirical knowledge overall, but you're not within a million goddamned miles of them.

Manage Depression?
Increase Performance to otherwise unheard of levels?
Welcome to RealNZT. RealNZT is a custom-blend of the most powerful nootropics (brain nutrients and natural neuro stimulants) available anywhere.

RealNZT consists of a custom-blended 100mm tube of notropics in a powdered mix.

And a 00-sized capsule of highly-concentrated nootropic "boosters" to extend the nootropic half-life from 6-8 to 12-16 hours.

Simply mix in 16-24 oz of water. Drink fast for intense presence, energy and clarity. Or sip from morning through afternoon for a balanced level of energy, clarity and focus.

In addition to mental clarity, focus and energy, our clients say they experience:
* A high level of confidence in decision-making.
* A happier disposition
* Hyper-creativity
* Drive and ambition with the focus to complete projects
* Greater understanding when learning subjects
* An almost euphoric experience in understanding "the big picture"
* Improves brain elasticity
* Increases activity between synapses
* Dramatically increases levels of Serotonin, Dopamine and Acetylcholine
* Can measurably reduce the "pull" of dangerous drugs
* Improved flexibility and dilation of veins and capillaries
* Measurable increases in blood levels of nitric oxide

RealNZT is serious nutrition. Based on more than 30 years of scientific research. Breakthroughs in natural extraction and compounding. And a team dedicated to life extension and mental+physical performance.

Guaranteed performance improvements. Fast.

Is anyone here at /sci/ considering (or enrolled in) a PhD-MD program?

I was thinking about potentially pursuing an MD but I still want to focus on research so I stumbled upon these PhD-MD programs which seem to be great for those that are most interested in Biomedical Research, as opposed to just being a practitioner or whatever (which doesn't interest me at all).

From what I understand they take longer (obviously) than just a MD or PhD and they can be harder to get into but they aren't necessarily as competitive as MD programs because not as many people apply to them?

I've been interested in research for a while, and I'm still trying to focus in on what I would want to study, but I think if it were Biomedical it would help ground me more rather than locking myself up in the proverbial ivory tower of academia.

Pic kinda related.

Let's get a real science thread going.

Where do you think the future of genetic engineering lies?
I'm talking uses in any domain you can think of, be it agriculture, greater pet customization that isn't just 'glowing' animals, or human augmentation.

Also, on a bit of a side note, how many of you would actually eat in vitro meat? (Meat grown in a petri dish/test tube/science vat that has never been a part of a living animal.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_vitro_meat

/diy/ seems interesting, the few times I've browsed.
/d/ is full of gentlemen. Who prefer their sex with tentacles or chicks with dicks.
Similarly, any thread in /v/ that is about old dos games or Violated Heroine tend to be filled with camaraderie.

Of course, any thread where dickheaded newfag /b/tards make an entrance tends to get ruined for the next few hours.

Hello /sci/
i recently consumed (and am still under the influence of) DMT
and i have come to tell you that the consciousness is a supertemporal thing and our concepts of it as being bound by our time constraints are foolish
consciousness exists as a single unbroken entity, yes it needs a mind to be able to exist, its essentially a computer program running that needs a physical computer to run in or will cease to exist (although i do not know if computer programs are true consciousness-like programs or simply mechanical representations of conceptual functions, like extremely complex electronic clockwork)
however the consciousness, the "self", the observer, is produced by the physical mind, but is distinct from it, because it is not a physical but a conceptual entity (like a program)

The /sci/ implication of this is in debate about transhumanism. Uploading one's brain to a computer, the philosophy behind it of whether the computer is truly yourself, or whether yourself dies because your body dies and the computer program is a different thing. It is the same self, because "self" as a conceptual thing; it is not bound by time, and so as long as it is continuous through spacetime (with the information flow into the computer from the brain), the self can travel from one physical executor to another; and the human body dies, so obviously the experience of that self is limited; but the computer self survives on and experiences more for longer, and thus that self, is the more significant self, than the one that has died; so for all effective points of view, once the other one dies it stops being better, so the computer takes on the self, as an effective supertemporal being, that is one solid and continuous entity, that at all points is following the laws of spacetime
its not that there necessarily is anything beyond spacetime but as far as objects within spacetime, the self is valid, even if perhaps just as an emergent property of complex electrochemical systems

Can someone intelligent explain this shit to me? What I'm getting from this is that science doesnt yet know if atoms are mass or waves, even more fucked up is that there is a possibility that 'atoms' could be aware of observation. (or maybe someone fucked up the experiment)

I'm bad at sciencing, so maybe hat I got from the video is wrong, nonetheless, would love to know more.
