Fell for the JOB JOB JOB MONEY MONEY MONEY! meme, hated the culture in this field, quit. I saved enough money to go back to school for a good long while and I'm thinking about geology, since that's what I enjoy. What are the people and culture like in geology?

Look at what professions they sent to walk on the moon: 11 pilots (astronautics/aeronautics) and 1 geologist. And most of the pilots received extensive geology training before going. I'm guessing geology would be a good one.

We probably would have sent a meteorologist/climatologist if we knew beforehand there was air, or a hydrologist if we knew there was water (or an astrobiologist if we knew there was life). Assuming minimal knowledge of the destination, i.e. that it has a surface, a geologist would be the minimum requirement.
