astrophysics wannabe here, yes this is right. the heat overcomes the pressure and forces the stuff outward, that is why stars expand when they hit the 'helium flash' its when so much helium has accumulated and the temp/pressure guage turned back on from the extreme forces, pretty much it will do this all the way up until the iron core. because iron atoms can get to be some of the most compact in the universe, thats why when the iron core is detectable, the star is near death. supernova cause other rare elements such as gold, silver, platnum, cheers

once the helium is burning it will make the next heavier element in the core until there is enough to cause that to flash and burn
