Use the organism from the earliest time period to root the tree and then just bifurcate it based on how similar their morphology is. Ordering by chronology is completely wrong (try ordering every organism on earth to produce a tree that makes no sense). The one in the OP doesn't make sense because each node only has one branch. Also there's a random branch that doesn't lead to anything in both pictures.

This is a pretty horrible way of teaching phylogenetics and there are multiple ways to do this. Get more information.

A marxist post-structuralist continental Ecole Normale Supérieure professor and feminist activist was teaching a class on Martin Heidegger, known hermeneuticist.

”Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Nietzsche and accept that his genealogical method was the most highly-evolved theory the continent has ever known, even greater than Hegel's dialectics!”

At this moment, a brave, rational, positivist analytic philosopher who had read more than 15000 pages of Popper and Wittgenstein and understood the raison d'être of empiricism and fully supported all modern hard sciences stood up and held up the constitution.

”How universal is this text, frenchfag?"

The arrogant professor smirked quite Jewishly and smugly replied “It's not universal at all, fucking positivist, its 'truth' is rooted in our shared understandings about culture, the subject and the nexus of power and knowledge”

”Wrong. It’s been 225 years since human reason created it. If it was not universal, and post-modern relativism, as you say, is real… then it should be regarded as a myth now”

Before you post anything, please read the following:

1. /sci/ is not for your homework. If you post a homework request, people may do it if they're interested or they may not do it if they're not. We aren't forced to comply. No, that doesn't mean we can't do it - that means we don't want to do it. Especially, acting like an entitled bitch ("I bet you nerds can't solve this ha ha") will not get you anywhere.

2. Do NOT post homework that can be easily solved with this magical website known as WOLFRAMALPHA. Yes, it can compute graphs. Yes, even 3D graphs. Yes, it does statistics. Yes, it does physics. Yes, it does show steps. Please bookmark this: http://www.wolframalpha.com and should you post a homework thread, always ask yourself: can it be wolframalpha'd? If it can and you post it anyway, expect to be redirected to this site (with a sage).

3. No, the sticky with the Putnam problem isn't homework. It is a Putnam problem.

4. This thread is about science and math. Religion and philosophy (unless it's philosophy of science) do not belong here. No, we certainly don't need another debate about whether religion is right or not. We don't need another debate filled with arguments known for centuries about God's existence. We don't need another argument about free will, dualism or qualia, everything you may think of has already been posted here. Yes, everything. Just don't post it here.

5. People posting in your religion thread aren't butthurt atheists. They're trolls. You don't troll /sci/ by posting your shitty thread, you just troll trolls. Big fucking deal.

Like all jokes, they have a ground of veracity (for instance, there are few girls in engineering courses, hence the engineer jokes, etc.) but for fuck's sake, stop being offended.

Not to be a pop-scientist here but is it possible that the universe is so vast because it reflects upon itself creating an infinite sequence? In a way this could sort of describe how something could come from nothing though I am having trouble finding the words.

Pic not related just funny

i heard of an interesting hypothetical situation on TV last night. it goes like this.
if you could communicate with aliens on the other side of the galaxy by audio only, would it be possible to teach them what we call left and right??
i think they were saying it was impossible, but i thought there was something about electro magnetism that treated left and right different for whatever reason. am i right though?
well am i??

Working on a presentation for my college course. I had to pick a science topic with relevance to society. As a college student I picked microwaves(or I may just say electromagnetic radiation as a whole(which would allow me to include light, and all human society is dependent on that), it depends on which is easier, or I think will merit a better grade). So I need some images of microwaves(not microwave ovens, but if anyone has a diagram of a microwave.... or something like that) or any images that might apply. Can /sci/ help me?

Hey /sci/, I was wondering. Our stomachs contain a mix of various enzymes and hydrochloric acid. Would it be possible (within imagination) to use other acids, like sulfuric or nitric? I'm thinking that if we had a more powerful acid in our gut, then we could digest faster as well as using vomit as a defensive weapon (fuck yeah!)

Internal damage could be defended against by thicker mucus layerings, which is how our body defends against the HCL anyways.

So what are your thoughts on this? What is the strongest acid that we could use in this fashion?

FTL cmmunication. Come up with something vaguely believable, I need it for a short story.

Also, M theory: believable or bullshit?
