Yes let's fly to other system for 8 years in horrible spartan conditions that will make half of the crew go crazy assuming nothing goes wrong.

When we can just build habitats in space and have 40 trillion population no problem.

Oh wait out population actually plateaued around 20 billion and everybody sits in VR 24/7 anyways.

Interstellar civilizations without FTL travel or at least communication are complete bullshit.

He's unironically right. We will probably get a Mars base maybe even few but actual city with normal civilians? Pipe dream for at least a century.

If we actually get a real space industry going large habitats will unironically be better in every way.

Doesn't change the fact that his BO accomplished nothing so far tho.

We don't need Mars for that. We need stations in asteroid belt. And before that strong Moon and Earth orbit presence.

What exactly do we gain from Mars? Asteroid belt has everything Mars has and more. Way more.

Why terraform Mars when 3/4 of Earth has very little human presence? Earth could fit 5x more people than it does today easily.

I'm all for Mars bases for scientific stuff. But beyond that?

Mars colony is easier at first.

Large space habitats are a better long term goal.

Anon, it looks literally like Gundam colonies.

Even assuming we do discover magical FTL, what's the point of colonizing outside Solar System?

We have all resources we could possibly need for a million years right here. Creating new colony planets would be a gigantic pain in the ass and I really don't see the average lazy person of today wanting to move somewhere far away from infrastructure and internet.

There are many different ideas for cylinders. Plenty have a lot of glass.

Why even colonize other planets with horrid living conditions instead of building cylinder stations?
