There are two things you know for sure.

1) You don't know that there is matter in the universe, because you never get the matter itself into your consciousness, only perception of matter, so all you know is that you perceive there to be matter, not whether there is matter or not.

2) The past by definition doesn't exist anymore. The future by definition doesn't exist yet. Therefore only the present moment exists, always.

You can deduce from these two premises that God didn't necessarily create the universe millions of years ago. It might as well be that God is RIGHT NOW creating what you perceive as the universe, as you go along, in real time, including all of history.

2) is connected to 1), because of the fact that we can't know whether anything exists beyond our consciousness we can't know whether anything of the past existed or just appears that way. Regardless of this the past by definition doesn't exist any longer, but we can't know whether it ever existed.
