consider the following:

a testperson sits in a room.
a container gets opened in the test room that releases a smell.
the testperson is able to clearly identify the smell and can confim that it can smell the smell.

the person stays in the smelly room.
it is made sure that once the experment started the amound of smell stays the same over the hole experiment.

after a while most testpersons will not be able to smell the smell anymore because they got used, desensitised(?) to it.

if you than take the testperson out of the room. wait a short time (e.g. 5 minutes) and than bring it back to the room it will imdidatly be able again if the room smells.

why is the testperson not able to tell if the room is still smelly?

is it posible for the testperson to learn to be able to smell the smell again?

what is the reason that this experiment will work for smell but not for the other sences such as sight, sound and touch?
