Its not, there is nuclear energy, which is practically inexhaustible, and contains far more energy than all fossil fuels combined. We just need to develop economical breeder reactors, and thats not such a far fetched notion if we actually try. Far more likely than fusion an even energy storage needed to enable mass renewables use.

ways of building and activating a liquid flouride thorium reactor on a ship in international waters without using uranium to kickstart the reaction

would it be possible? (with farnsworth neutron generators to kickstart the reaction) would it be economically feasable? (after the reaction is started, and the electricity generated can be used for smelting of aluminim and other energy-intensive products
