How to learn to appreciate math if you had to suffer through years of school just memorizing formulas and not understanding why it worked how it did and it made you hate math?

I took a real analysis class based on the book Principles of Mathematical Analysis by Walter Rudin, and it just seemed to be mostly just reproving the obvious. I feel that the mathematics of the future will involve a lot more pictures, and the non-rigorous mathematics practiced by theoretical physicists e.g. quantum field theory, 1+2+3+... = -1/12, &c. In another field, the "safety" of R.S.A. or elliptic curve crypto-systems is only conjectural, yet these systems are still useful. In fact Chaitlin has shewn that most mathematical facts are either undecidable, or unprovable in real time. And analysis does not seem to introduce new concepts such as sheaves in order to allow humans to access a greater class of theorems.

Sup, /sci/.
I've been banging my head with this one for a while now. And before you ask, no its not my fucking homework, I just cant get it right. So I need a C++ code that solves the following problem:
A man has a vineyard which he harvests for 15 days straight.
A: Write a code that finds the quantity of the sold grape for the said time period and shows the days that the amount of production is less than the total maximum sold for 1 day.

B:A code that shows the count of the days that more than 1/5 of the total quantity is sold.

Hello, anyone that knows a thing or two about organic chemistry I need your help please...

In SN1 (Nucleophilic substitution), if nucleophile attacks a substrate that has 3 different groups attached to it, we get RACEMIC mixture (R and S)...

What about attacks on CARBONYL GROUP? Lets take ketone for example - let's say it has 2 different alkyl groups attached to it (R1, R2) - will we also get a racemic mixture?? What about aldol condensation of propanal?? Claisen condensation reactions? Etc... ? Thank you very much for your answer..

im no phycisist or scientist by any means but ive always been curious and interested about space, physics, quantum mechanics, basically anything related to physics and theoretical physics. i love all those abstract ideas but it never really seemed like it would be a practical career path.

and so im studying computer engineering because that is my interest aswell. /sci/ how can I get invovled wwith particle physics n shitand turn it into a career with an comp engr degree?

Algebraists of /sci/ I don't quite understand the geometric interpretation of the last two Homologies of the protective plane. Is the last Homology zero because we have no 2-D holes in the protective plane? This actually seems pretty obvious to me. The H_1 Homology is actually confusing my a fair bit though. What geometric significance am I to draw from <2>? What is the connection to the actual topology of P^2? Does it have to do with some cyclic nature of the 1-D loops in P^2?

You are sent back in time anywhere from 1200-3000 years. Could you make a living for yourself?

You arrive with nothing but basic clothing with natural materials only. You do not automatically know the language or customs of the place you arrive. You retain all your present day knowledge but have no way to reference any of it.

In what case would a background in pure statistics be better than a background in applied mathematics?
