Mine's next week. I have very little to show. I learned a lot, but produced very little. I have a low IQ so it took me a while just to familiarize myself with the basic paradigms and jargon of the field, despite genuinely putting a lot of time and energy into it, and my "research" was largely a bunch of numbermonkey simulation work that only served to validate what my superiors already thought should be true anyway.

I guess this is a good indicator that I'm meant for the codemonkey life, with a few cool textbooks at home to taste but never live the academic life.

Look at the academic job market and the way the post doc system in the U.S is basically a slave market designed to trap people in for cheap labor until they're "too old" to make it. Look at the number of tenure track job openings vs the number of PhDs in this country. Less than three percent of PhDs ever get tenure; most are forced into underemployment or industry by a saturated job market.

Research is a noble and excellent pursuit that has been destroyed as a career option by a combination of boomers, kikery, and incompetent policy. Collecting fiat bux like a good goy is pathetic, but it's what most of us are going to have to do to eat every night.

last tuesday i interviewed in person for a position called x. now just last night the company reposted the exact same listing with the title "associate engineer, x". i thought ny interview went well and was kind of surprised. am i fucked?
