If only the scientific community was as intelligent as you anon. Then we wouldn't be wasting all this time and money.

I've recently been really struggling with fear of death. However if I imagine I'm diagnosed with a terminal illness and going to die in a week I feel massive amount of peace and relaxation. I still intervene in extreme danger situations with zero fear even though that is what started me worrying in the first place.

So why is death so scary to me in everyday safe life yet when it comes to a situation, thought experiment or real, where death seems likely I don't give a fuck?

I have basically worked 7 days a week 8 am to 9 pm for over 5 years, with probably about 25 days off a year. My grades/university are exceptional, but I honestly don't think it was worth it. No gf, no hobbies, no fun, lost most my enthusiasm in the subject, just work work work.

>Why do you do it
Started off cause grew up in poverty, then started wanting to do better and better, now just can't stop

I think I am actually really dumb.
I can't remember stuff that I read or hear and can't make connections in my head easily.
Probably why I can barely hold a conversation well easily either, you need a certain amount of recall from your own experiences, as well as the ability to make connections to the conversation from your surroundings or so, I dunno. I read a ton of shit but I can hardly recall any of it when I need to. Maybe I have shitty neurons or sonething.

How do I get smarter, or should I just resign myself to a life of slow thoughts and brainletdom?

>Be materialist
>Believe in an external universe, outside of consciousness
>Will never be able to experience said external universe, since everything you know is in consciousness, by your own definition
>Realize you believe in something you will never experience directly
>Appeal to pragmatism to uphold your belief in an external universe
>Realize that your external universe is no more real than the concept of God
>Appeal to science to uphold your belief in an external universe
>Realize that all science and scientists are within your own mind (consciousness)
>Realize you will never be able to reason your way out of this conundrum
>Realize that consciousness is the only thing that is actually real
>Realize you were a brainlet all along

Oh I had assumed you understood my metaphor but apparently not
I was saying that you looking at the picture and seeing it move would be the illusion. Your brain processes information which causes it to move and yet it never actually moves. Much like this you perceive a self while it's actually more of a semi-static state (the now)
And if you are honestly trying to argue against this because "dur you can't understand metaphors if the thing you understand it with is an illusion" then t.

going from top
you're conscious
your mommy is/was conscious
her predecessor was conscious
going down that path on the genealogical tree at some point, specific node had to be unconscious one, and somehow gained it or produced conscious offspring, could one of differences in their genomes be a gene of consciousness?
