sup /sci/.

I learned a lot about dimensional analysis recently, more than I could've thought possible. The power of it is really pretty amazing.

I'm going to throw out some questions to you. Yes these used to be homework problems, but I did them. I just happen to think this particular professor, very famous, has a certain knack for making great problems.

Side conversations involving graduate work in aerospace engineering is encouraged.

Yeah, I couldn't work in a way to get a good joke out of the group thing

you don't know any phd students, do you? do you honestly think that graduate students don't fuck around on the internet like everyone else in america?

>>2855045
right. at several thousand dollars per pound to launch things into space, and i don't know how many to land on an asteroid, mine it, and come back to earth, i don't think there's any element worth that pure weight expense.

shameless self bump.

i find this image just amazing. left to right, in one picture we see some of the beauty and complexity of fluid mechanics. attached, laminar flow, followed by a detached laminar flow, and a transition to pure turbulence.

holy fuck no.

holy fuck no.

phd aerodynamicist here. wrong on so many levels. the red ball will not create more turbulence, and weight is not a factor. and wtf, rounded == turbulence?
and bullets aren't turbulent? argh.

pic related, it's a sphere.

also, my intuition says the blue ball will travel farther. the red is going to have nasty unsteady effects. but the question (a) doesn't provide enough information and (b) is far more complex than presented.
