Well, I'm sure that wouldn't have done much good being that it's a placental tumour. Perhaps I should have drank water with some ground up baby in it?

Well if I'd have known your mother back then, I'm sure she'd have been happy to donate.

> light travels in straight lines

Not necessarily. It also depends what you mean by straight.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refraction

> but light can also bend behind obects? they cast shadows, but at distance the shadows no longer have the area of the objects that created them therefore we know for some reason the light has moved into some of the space beyond the object that created the shadow.

I'm not sure what the fuck you're trying to say. If an object casts a shadow, but there's still some light within that shadow, it's because light is coming from more than one angle, either because there are multiple light sources or because light from a single light source is being reflected or scattered.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scattering

> light can travel thru area's that have no matter. im told it does this by instantly creating then destroying particles that hold its energy for a fraction of a milisecond while it travels thru the vacuum.

What?

Electromagnetic radiation self-propagates. It does not need a medium of particles through which to travel. The changing magnetic field induces an electric field, and then vice versa, and so on. Furthermore, I don't know who told you about particles being instantaneously created and destroyed. Light can be described either as a wave or a particle, but it does not temporarily "create" any kind of pseudo-particle to carry itself along. If that's a real theory, I've never heard it, and I'm about to get a bachelors degree in physics.

Seriously /sci/, what's the big deal?
I thought they found a very new kind of life form and thus coding, like life forms not based on DNA/RNA but something completely different, meaning that we would not have anything in common with them. But they found a bacteria based on DNA which mutated enough to be able to use arsenic as a component of it's DNA and ATP and shit. What's the big deal? Are you shitting me, NASA?
How is this going to change our views on the extraterrestrial? So we needed this discovery to realize that there can be life that is NOT based on those 6 (H, N, C, O, P, S) elements? There is a fuckton of elements and different combinations in molecules, it's totally obvious we should not look only for oxygen and water on foreign planets to guess if there is/was life. If this discovery is what is expected of the best scientists, then I became a scientist 2 years ago. I hope I'm wrong and there's more to it, /sci/. Can anyone of you guys tell me?
