After completing a history degree from a very good uni and graduating with the top grade, I want to switch into computer science.
I think UK anons are most able to help here.

I'd prefer an online degree, because I have social anxiety issues and a 3 year BA on campus was very hard for me to get through because of that.
I'd prefer the degree to be 1 year, or I'll feel as though the time spent on my current BA was a waste. I am willing to do a 3 year one though.
I hope to spend the next few months learning the basics of programming, I could start building a portfolio in this time.
Some background- my A-Level grades were very high, (A*A*A) but didn't include maths or similar subjects. This may prevent me from qualifying at certain uk unis.

My GCSES were also good, all As and A*s bar one B. This does include an A in maths, but not IT. I enjoyed maths as a child but haven't touched it in years.

I don't really want to spend another 3 years studying so I'd prefer a 1 year online degree course, which I've found 1 of so far. But are these as valuable as traditional degrees?

Do you even think I'll find a high paying job at the end- what's the market like? What is the quality of living like with work like balance? Can I work from home and earn much?

Basically just seeking advice from a UK compSci or someone with knowledge of the programming industry.

Thanks.
