I'm on chapter 3 of this and so far have been having trouble solving most of the proof exercises on my own, giving each at most 30 minutes before giving in if I can't figure it out (assuming that's about what the author expects of the average reader).

Should I just give up on the thought of any STEM degree that isn't plug and chug? I just wanted the math education that I never had before starting college, not these feelings of worthlessness.

First things, read this. Its not that long, around around 24 pages, and its really entertaining.

https://www.maa.org/external_archive/devlin/LockhartsLament.pdf

Now, pic related was alright. Fun to go through. But the geometry sections were kind of convoluted and confusing. So I just left the book there. But the first parts talk about most basic stuff related to arithmetic, some basic "proofs" here and there. Give it a look.

If you did read what I shared with you at the top, you will realize its more about you finding whats fun than going through a series of pre requisites for a certain thing, as if it was a ladder you were climbing.

So give the wikia a look, look at the subjects, and find what you would like to learn.

Check the wikia for content.

If your math knowledge is not that good, check pic related. The geometry sections aren't really that good and are at times weird and convoluted, so maybe avoid them.

You will want to start getting your feet wet in Calculus. Check the wikia for some introductory books on the subject.

And, well, thats pretty much it tho I think.

Is this the greatest mathematics book for anything below university?

Pic related. What are your thoughts on this text? I am thinking of purchasing it to brush up on my skills in algebra/precalculus, but I've heard that there are some typographical errors - and even worse, a few errors in his answers?

I just started to read Basic Mathematics by Serge Lang because I feel that my mathematics foundations are not strong and solid and frequently I get sloppy at reasoning while solving some problem.

Reccomend me a books about something that interests you. It has to be comprehensible hi someone who is decently intelligent and has a first year college education.

I haven't done math in a while and I'm trying to get back into it. I'm reviewing all the way up to calc 2 because I'm taking it in the fall semester.

How's the statistics book?

Is this a good book to use as a precalculus book? Will it prepare me for something like Spivak's calculus?

Background: Going to go into a computer science program. Want to actually learn math so I can program interesting things and not GUIs and shitty office applications. Thanks.
