It absolutely is, it absorbs light at long wavelengths and transmits light at short wavelengths it's by definition a greenhouse gas.

it's an utterly massive amount, our atmosphere now has the highest concentrations of CO2 it has had in over 5 million years, entirely due to human emissions over less than a century.

Ice core samples provide extremely accurate records of atmospheric composition, as well as surprisingly accurate temperature records. going back millions of years. Fossil records give us a good idea of ranges of plants and animals. Solar influences are a little tricky, though we do know some basic things like the sun was 5% cooler a few million years back, and effects of orbit on climate can be derived from orbital mechanics.

Many of you are familiar with this exponential, "hockey stick" graph.

What you may not know is that the recent CO2 data comes from air samples.

The CO2 data from the past comes from ice samples. There's no evidence that an ice core sample would reflect the same ppm as the ambient air.
