Most people, Atheists and Fundamentalists alike, don't realize that hardcore 'fire and brimstone" fundamentalism only started a few decades ago.

Christians in general are much more tolerant than people expect them to be. This is due to the same reason Muslims get no respect, general knowledge and opinion of their religion is based on assumptions revolving around the extremists.
