How would I go about this? I'm pretty lost because I don't really understand the notation very well. I get that it is the sum from x to x^2 for that function, but where does t factor in?

Anyone willing to point me in the right direction

Also: Does higher-level math have no basis in reality? Is it purely abstract to the point that it doesn't mimic a certain characteristic of reality?
