This is a terribly thorough and comprehensive introductory physical chemistry textbook that would be a good read once you have a good enough understanding of general chemistry. I will be reading through it as a first-year graduate student because my physical chemistry background is lacking that much.

This textbook is different from other physical chemistry textbooks as it begins with quantum theory and then uses these ideas to build up thermodynamics. I would also recommend the author's Statistical Thermodynamics textbook (after reading through and getting a better understanding of introductory thermodynamics, that is) which helped me during this past semester.
