you dont dig, have you seen the apollo launch pad? its a friggen hill made of concrete, with a trench in it. they could not dig a real trench there as well. space x has the problem that the ground is not stable enough to hold such a massive concrete structure. they have to finish the cape launch pad and do their tests from there
