Because of JWST's ridiculous cost overruns. Cosmology nonsense gets way more attention and funding because NASA is filled with girls who have daddy issues and want to prove the nonexistence of god as a way of dismantling the patriarchy. Learning potentially exploitable information about nearby space objects has nowhere near that level of potential propaganda exploitation.
