You cited the wrong study; this is the one where the original finding comes from:

Notable excerpt from this study:
>By midtraining, all three clusters realized substantial increases in strength (Non 30.5%, Mod 25.6%, Xtr 29.4%)
It's true that there were no significant increases beyond this point for the NON cluster. However, it could very well be the case that a changed fitness routine would allow strength gains to continue.
Actually, however, this study is complete garbage. Why is that?
They didn't control for diet AT ALL! Protein is ESSENTIAL for muscle gains.
