I posted here a while back after being stuck on chapter 1.

I have completed the first 3 chapters of the book (~500 pages), including most of the exercises and lectures up till that point.

But chapter 4 with its metacircular evaluator just straight up demoralised me.
I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND SHIT. It became way too abstract and all the exercises are now about engineering your own evaluator.

So tell me, should I continue and finish the whole book? Is it worth slugging through chapter 4 and 5? I don't see how the book can be beneficial for me now, as chapter 4 and 5 are way too esoteric. Also, my university stops at the metacircular evaluator so I can kinda stop reading the book if the rest of the content doesn't help me.

SICP is pretty hard though, at least the exercises. I am currently reading it (at chap 3.4) and I am still getting my ass handed to me sometimes.

But yes, SICP is really good.

I study sicp daily with doing almost all the exercises and listening to the lectures as well. BUT IT IS SO FUCKING HARD and i will get stuck for almost an hour on some questions what the fuck. WHY IS IT SO HARD AND AM I GONNA MAKE IT?

Do I need a computer to learn computer science? Can I take a few books, go out into the wilderness with no electricity for 2 years and emerge with the equivalent of a comp sci degree?

Where can I buy this book for $10?

And is there any difference between the 1985 (1st edition) and 1996 (2nd edition)

How much previous math and programing knowledge does one need to become a computer engineer or study pic related?

Working on my BS in Computer Science. Is this a good guide for determining what I should know? I want to be a software engineer, or maybe something in computer security, with a government agency. I'm also interested in parts of computer science as a hobby.

http://matt.might.net/articles/what-cs-majors-should-know/

I also plan to do pic related this summer. Is it recommended? I think it teaches Scheme as a first prolang but I heard Python would be better.

After learning my first prolang, what comes next?

I heard you should create a portfolio on Github and help with open source projects. Should I learn Scheme then look for open source projects and edit already-existing projects? How would you help, by making the code more efficient?

When should I move on to learning the next prolang? Should I just find any syllabus and follow that? I want to be ahead of the curve and make my coursework easier and to be able to get good grades.

I like to make a strict plan and follow it but I'm not sure how I should for this. Can you help with this?
