OK, getting ready to take some abuse here.
I think I've worked my way into a research pigeonhole here, and I'm an indecisive fuck and can't figure out how to get out. I had a hard-on for organic chemistry, so I did a BSc degree in chemistry, but about halfway through I got really into transition metal chemistry. I interned in both a computational and an experimental lab, did pretty well, got a couple papers, generally aced my degree, but now I'm starting my PhD and I'm just realizing that I've kind of cut myself off from both the most interesting stuff (physics and biology), AND the most profitable stuff (materials science, pharmeceutical-related chemistry), and I'm thinking I need to pivot, but I'm an indecisive fuck. Some of the directions I've been thinking of, and their pros/cons are:
>materials
it's kinda boring, but there's so much $
>more inorganic
I already know a lot, nobody cares about it
>bioinorganic
quite interesting, I could probably learn the techniques quickly enough, some people care about it, very few labs do it, projects are all highly collaborative, would have to change schools
>Quantum chemistry
interesting as fuck, nobody else cares about it, would make me into a smarter person, I'd probably have to complete half another bachelour's degree in math/phys/CS to be anywhere near competent in the field
So can anyone help me out here? I can't figure out if I should move towards bio or physics or just drop out and make meth
>inb4 do a math degree
