The real pill here is that an inability to sensibly analyse data and understand the implications of changes in methodology, combined with westerners thinking they should live forever and be 100% safe is causing a massive shitstorm.

Almost a year later and we are STILL using mass pcr at stupidly high cycle rates, very high primer concentrations, and with primers that are susceptible to cross reaction with other coronaviruses and that cannot distinguish fragmented from whole rna.

Combine that with an absolute unwillingness on the part of governments to just admit the risk of death is really limited to those over 70 and we have a recipe for endless lockdown.

The fatality rate is comparable to the yearly flu. 99.99% in the 0-49 years old range survive according to a study from Europe.
Entertain the thought of this being a deadly pandemic drill, with the possible benefit of erradicating the yearly flu which actually takes all the lives reported EVERY SEASON. If so, this is a giant opportunity for humankind to prove what coordinated awareness and collaboration can achieve.

Saw a comment in the FT that really made a lot of sense. This vaccine does mark the end of the pandemic because it provides hope and reassurance to overly panicled western countries and will allow them to feel the risk is controlled. It's a question of perception.
