Ok /sci/ I am in need of some help

I want to learn science but I have no clue what to begin, I simply want to understand what most of you here talk about. I have already recently downloaded 22 items of Carl Sagan's (I've been told he was a science giant) writing that I may read in the future but I want to know if there are any essential books or pieces of information that I should educate myself on. I'm heading to college in the fall and am thinking on majoring in biochemistry or plant biology.
