How important are math proofs to physics? Can someone interested in physics just skim math texts and follow along with intuition without grinding through creating their own proofs?

I like physics but proofs don't agree with me. I even worked through one of those intro to proofs books but quickly forgot everything I learned (this was a few years ago).
