The act of "observing" a particle/wave disturbs the particle. To observe it you need to interact with it. Why is this a hard concept?
The "observation" is NOT doing nothing, it is actively changing the particle/wave.

When you alter the behavior of the particle/wave it acts differently. It would be VERY weird if it did not.

This has to be the most ludicrously obvious experiment in history. Instead of saying it is an "observation" say "look I altered the particle/wave and now it acts differently then when I do not alter it".
